Re: Growing bamboo with submerged leaves

I've had a word of caution from a fellow hobbyist that's made me a bit cautious about bamboo in tanks. She'd had it in one of hers for a while, but when she had to remove it, she found some stems had turned black and were in a pretty grim state. It's probably unfair of me, but it's made me a bit ...

Re: Growing bamboo with submerged leaves

Leaves underwater will just rot, won't work out well for the plant.

Thanks coltin, I'll give them more time to grow before planting. The AC 110 filter bypass section has been a game-changer for me - since moving them there, I've noticed a significant improvement in nitrate uptake, likely due to ...

Growing bamboo with submerged leaves

I've had success with bamboo in my filter, where the stalk and roots are submerged. Now I'm wondering if it can still do well with the leaves submerged too, but the roots in the substrate.

Re: Is algae contributing to melting?

I've noticed another development since reducing the light. It's not a huge concern for me, as long as it doesn't spread. Upon taking a closer look, I think the bumps on the algae might actually be bubbles - possibly CO2 bubbles.

Re: Is algae contributing to melting?

Considering the reduced lighting and Corys helping with the algae, should I manually remove the algae from the leaves or let nature take its course?

Re: Is algae contributing to melting?

I adjusted the Daylight program time (P2 in the pic) to 6 hours as suggested, and I'm glad to see the ramp time was already at 30 minutes. I decided not to touch the Sunrise, Sunset, or Moonlight programs for now, as I enjoy watching the fish during these times.

Re: Is algae contributing to melting?

New to plants here and just set up some Seveflake Kleiner Bar Swords. Got new lights - NICREW RGB +W 24/7, and now I'm dealing with a weird issue. One of the leaves (far left in pic) has turned translucent. Everything, except the fish, is getting covered in brown algae. Is this what people mean ...

Re: Is algae contributing to melting?

How long has the tank been set up for? I'm guessing the brown algae coating everything is likely diatoms, they're super common in new tanks and tend to burn themselves out in a month or so.

I think your photoperiod might be a bit too long, 9 hours plus sunrise and sunset is a lot. I personally ...
