Re: Do Bettas need a heater
Totally agree. It's such a simple fix, but it makes a huge difference. My betta's colors even got brighter after I added a heater.

Re: Do Bettas need a heater
I've got a 5-gallon too, and my heater keeps it at 80F. My betta seems way more active now. Before, he'd just kinda sit at the bottom. It's a night and day difference.

Re: PAR requirements for different corals
My tank's a mess right now. I've got a cheap light, and everything's kinda brown. Gonna upgrade soon, but I'm scared of frying my softies. Any budget-friendly options?

identifying the illness in my cichlid
I was doing a routine water change on my 75g cichlid tank yesterday, and I came across this little guy. Got him out and isolated him in a hospital tank right away.
Prior to the water change, my tank parameters were:
Temp - 80 F (26.6 C)
pH - 8.2
Ammonia - 0ppm
Nitrite - 0ppm
Nitrate - around 20ppm ...

Re: choosing a suitable tank mate for an algae eater
I've got my betta's tank set up in a closet, away from direct sunlight, and it's lit with a regular LED strip. I stick to a weekly maintenance routine, doing 25-30% water changes. The substrate's sand, and I've got no live plants, but I did try adding an Algae Ball to see if it'd make a difference ...

choosing a suitable tank mate for an algae eater
Hey everyone, I'm having a nightmare with algae in my 10g tank with a male betta. I've tried everything to get it under control, but it's still covering the glass, sand, and decorations. I'm at my wit's end - short of taking the betta out and doing a full tank scrub, I'm stumped.
