Re: identification for cichlid
I'd love to get a better idea of its size - do you have a rough estimate of the length? The orange on its dorsal is really standing out, and to me, it's giving off a female peacock vibe, but it's tricky to pinpoint the exact species since they all tend to look similar at this stage. Generally, I've ...

Re: Is my betta constipated?
Looks normal to me. The bulge, is it symmetrical, same on the other side? Don't worry about not seeing any poop, I hardly ever see it in my tanks. I figure it's either getting filtered out or breaking down fast.

Re: Is my betta a female?
No doubt in my mind, this is a male betta. The pelvic fins are a dead giveaway - they're full, long, and have those distinctive white tips. I've never seen a female with fins like that. It's not like it's unheard of for pet stores to misgender their bettas, either. I've had it happen to me twice ...

Re: identifying mystery plants: can you help?
My experience with DBT hasn't been great - it's barely scraping by without CO2. I had it in low-medium light and it was on its last legs. I managed to salvage a small clump and moved it to a high-light tank, where it's doing slightly better, but still not impressing me. The growth is just so slow ...

Re: identifying mystery plants: can you help?
I think the bigger one's a sword plant, the base of the plant can look like a bulb and the roots grow above it, often visible. The white roots, crown, and leaf shape are pretty typical of swords, give it some time and I'm pretty sure it'll start looking like one.

Re: identifying mystery plants: can you help?
The carpeting plant bears a resemblance to dwarf baby tears, but I've seen some sevale plants that share a similar appearance from a distance. Would you be able to provide some closer shots of it?

Re: Identifying the species found in malawi
Hello fellow African cichlid enthusiast, nice to see another like-minded individual on this forum, albeit a rare sight.
The striped one has me stumped, but I'm fairly certain the blue one is a young tursio. Give them some time, and once they reach around 4 inches in length, their characteristics ...

Re: best food options for cichlids
I've recently switched over to Cobalt, and I'm really pleased with their products. I've got two types of sinking pellets and some spirulina flakes that the fish seem to love. Their heaters are also top-notch.

Re: Is my betta rejecting bloodworms as a food source
My betta's not a fan of bloodworms either, doesn't matter if they're freeze-dried or frozen and thawed. To be honest, I've kinda given up on them. What does work for all my fish, though, is frozen brine shrimp - they just can't get enough of those.

Re: My journey with african cichlids
Yeah I'm pretty happy with how they turned out. I was surprised to find that there's hardly any info online about what these hybrids look like. I did find one pic that kinda matched, and I've added it below for comparison - the second pic is my actual hybrid.
