Re: identifying these betta fish
It's completely normal for marbled bettas to keep their patterns, but at the same time, it's also possible for them to change color over time.

Re: identifying these betta fish
I'm pretty sure the white and blue one is a double-tailed halfmoon, while the blue one could be either a regular halfmoon or another double tail - the angle makes it tough to tell.
As for their coloring, I think the white and blue one is a marble, and the blue one's just a blue betta with some red ...

Re: Betta fish care and feeding
At what stage are your fry at - I'm assuming they're still pretty small. For betta fry that have just started free swimming, I personally prefer to use micro worms and infusoria. Once they've grown a bit, I mix in baby brine shrimp alongside the micro worms.

Re: baby betta fish care
I picked up a "baby boy" DT a while back, but I was convinced it was a female from day one. I'm a sucker for scoring deals on baby bettas, especially the ones with unique fin types - you know, not your run-of-the-mill CT or VT.

The blue one, is it a double tail?
Just a heads up, baby betta genders aren't always what they're labeled as. If you see an egg spot though, you can be pretty sure.

Re: improving my african cichlid tank hardscape
I think a good starting point for your hardscape could be creating two piles of the rounder rocks, one at each end of the tank, and then using the larger flat rocks to create a sort of bridge between them in the middle. By doing this, you'll create a natural-looking transition between the two piles ...

Re: Cichlid discussion
I've had one Bumblebee cichlid, and I gotta say, he was a gentle soul compared to my other mbuna. I ended up rehoming him, though - my 55gal tank just didn't feel big enough for the guy. He was only around 5-6 inches when I let him go, still a young fella.

Re: identification for cichlid
I'd love to get a better idea of its size - do you have a rough estimate of the length? The orange on its dorsal is really standing out, and to me, it's giving off a female peacock vibe, but it's tricky to pinpoint the exact species since they all tend to look similar at this stage. Generally, I've ...

Re: Is my betta constipated?
Looks normal to me. The bulge, is it symmetrical, same on the other side? Don't worry about not seeing any poop, I hardly ever see it in my tanks. I figure it's either getting filtered out or breaking down fast.

Re: Is my betta a female?
No doubt in my mind, this is a male betta. The pelvic fins are a dead giveaway - they're full, long, and have those distinctive white tips. I've never seen a female with fins like that. It's not like it's unheard of for pet stores to misgender their bettas, either. I've had it happen to me twice ...
