Re: best discus tank cleaning tools
If you're dealing with stubborn algae, a stainless steel scraper is the way to go. Just be careful not to scratch the glass. Also, consider adding more fast-growing plants to outcompete the algae. My discus tank has Amazon swords and Java fern, and they help a ton.

Re: Back to Basics

I'm reviving this thread. I'd love to know if my discus might be similar strains to the ones discussed here.

Thanks for the input Liz and wilde. I actually never tried raising my discus with tap or well water, so I'm not sure how they'd do in that setup. The water I buy has some sort of filtration system - it's meant for drinking, but I've been using it for my tank.

Re: Is 100% ro/di water thoughts?
I'm thinking of getting a new water source for my future tank setup to cut costs in the long run. Right now, I'm considering using well water, but the TDS can be all over the place - it's been as high as 600 ppm and as low as 200 ppm, depending on the weather. I'm ...

Is 100% ro/di water thoughts?
I'm planning on upgrading to a bigger tank setup and I'm looking for a more cost-effective way to source water for water changes. Right now, I'm buying water, but I'll need something cheaper soon. I'm considering getting an RO/DI system because I like the idea of having more stable TDS levels ...
