Re: How to care for java moss
I've actually had pretty good luck with superglue for attaching moss in the past. However, I did try something different once - I used a fine stainless steel mesh, and then covered it with a fine cotton mesh. It took a few weeks, but the moss eventually filled in nicely.

Re: Jungle val struggles in my 50-gallon low-tech tank
I've had some success with Vallis by cutting the Excel dosage in half. Some species seem more tolerant to it than others, and I've found that at this reduced rate, it grows just fine.

Re: Do plant roots need to be above the substrate?
Lighting might be the culprit behind your carpet plant struggles. I'd suggest giving cryptocoryne parva a shot.

I've also had success with superglue, specifically the cyanoacrylate type, it's been a reliable option for me.

Re: beginning a salt water aquarium setup?
I'd say it's definitely doable, but you'll have to be on top of maintenance.
You're gonna want to get some live rock - it acts as your filtration - and a refractometer to keep an eye on your water parameters. A set of test kits is also a must, along with some good quality salt. Circulation pumps ...

Re: beginning a salt water aquarium setup?
Starting with a 10-gallon saltwater tank can be a bit challenging, especially if you're new to marine aquariums. I'd recommend considering a larger tank, as it'll be easier to maintain stable water parameters. That being said, it's not impossible to make a 10-gallon work - you'll just need to be ...

Re: care and maintenance tips
Java fern does indeed need to be secured to rocks or wood, and I've found that using either cyanoacrylate superglue or fishing line works well for this. Generally, it's a slow-growing plant, but I've noticed that its growth rate can vary depending on the lighting conditions. The leaves are quite ...

Re: Choosing the right substrate for your aquarium or terrarium
I've used just the aqua soil on its own before and it worked out alright, just keep in mind that it does leach ammonia so you'll want to keep an eye on that.

Re: Choosing the right substrate for your aquarium or terrarium
I've had success with a more budget-friendly approach to substrate, currently using an inert option for my hi-tech plants and it's working out just fine. If you're really looking to save, you could consider using terracat litter and capping it with gravel - not the prettiest solution, but it gets ...

Re: When do new zoanthids typically open up?
I did a dip in Tropic Marin Coral Cure today, hoping it'll help since only a few polyps had opened up on one frag. Fingers crossed, it does the trick. Honestly, I've never seen zoas stay closed this long after being fragged.
