Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I think I'll try the pool filter sand first since it's budget-friendly and seems easy to maintain.

Choosing aquarium sand

I'm setting up a new 40 gallon tank and can't decide on sand. I've heard some types can mess with water parameters. Any recommendations for something stable and easy to clean?

Hey, don't stress too much. I've seen swords bounce back with either method. What's your dosing schedule for liquids? Maybe you just need to tweak the frequency or concentration. Plants can be finicky, but they'll tell you what they need.

One more vote for Harlequins here. They're underrated. Super peaceful, easy to feed, and they don't hide like some Tetras do. Mine even swim up to greet me during water changes, which is kinda cute.

Cardinals are stunning but yeah, they need stable water. Your params sound good though. They'd do well with your Angelfish too, since they're from similar habitats. Just acclimate them slow, they're sensitive to quick changes.
