I've kept them together for a year in my 120g with no issues. Key was spacing and moderate flow. Gonis on the sand, SPS up high. But my tank's overfiltered with a Reef Octopus 150.

I've had success with my torch in a mixed reef tank. The key was finding a spot where the flow is gentle but consistent. Maybe try a corner with less direct current.

I just had a thought about your tank setup, I noticed you're using a reptile cave - I've got a few of those too, but I've been told they're not meant for underwater use, the material or finish could be leaching toxins into the water over time, which might not be helping your betta's situation ...
