Re: essential items for a new aquarium kit
I've got to say, I've found a siphon gravel vacuum to be a game-changer, although I do know a regular turkey baster can also do the job, I just find this one so much more effective.

Re: Are there daphnia in my tank?
Limiting feedings is key. A betta will eat as much as it can, whenever it can. In an enclosed space like your tank, there's no guarantee she won't catch all the daphnia quickly. You already have her in a spacious tank for a betta, with plenty of live plants and decor to explore. Plus, she gets live ...

Re: effective methods for removing aquarium algae
When I clean the glass, I just use a paper towel during water changes, that's it. Beyond that, if you're dealing with algae, there's likely an underlying issue that needs to be addressed.
I was also taken in by the promise of an easy fix. My tank was overrun with pest snails, so I brought in ...

Relying on an animal to tackle tank maintenance is often a letdown, as they can't address the underlying ...

Re: effective methods for removing aquarium algae
To be honest, I think we're putting too much faith in animals to solve our algae problems. The most effective algae cleaners are still us. While an animal might help a bit, the results will likely be underwhelming. And let's not forget, these animals have their own needs - they might outgrow our ...

Re: Floating plants: advice and guidance needed
Hi everyone,
I'm having a bit of a problem with my floating plants. They've been doing great so far, but now they're dying off. The filter output is pushing them all to one end of the tank, causing them to clog up and get tangled. This is burying the smaller ones, which then turn yellow and die ...

Re: Can honey gouramis and corydoras thrive in a natural environment?
When I think of ponds, I picture colder water fish. Honey gouramis aren't exactly cold water fish, they just don't require super warm water, their minimum is 72 degrees.

Re: back from my long break
Hey everyone, it's been ages since I last logged in, I'm a bit rusty on where everything is. Not sure if anyone recalls me, but I was pretty active here a few months back. I'd been dealing with some personal stuff - mental health issues, depression being one of them - and decided a break was ...

Re: best foods for my swordtail fish
Fluval Bug Bites are top-notch food, I completely agree. Considering your interest in varying your swordtail's diet, have you looked into frozen options? No need to rely on a local fish store; you can find them at most big pet stores. I think your fish would really enjoy brine shrimp or bloodworms ...

Re: buying fish that's been shipped: what to expect
I've had a great experience with Dan's Fish - 100% survival rate, top-notch customer service. I actually live super close to their warehouse, which is a bonus. I've never had fish shipped from them, but all my fish except my rope are from Dan's. They're really reliable, and I'd definitely recommend ...
