Re: Raising plate coral babies: next steps
You'll notice that when there are so many babies on one skeleton, they start to become misshaped and fuse together as they grow. It's not yet feasible to try dislodging them, given their current size. However, as they get larger and start competing for space, you can test some of the bigger ones to ...

Re: Growing symphyllia successfully
I've had a similar experience with my Symphyllia, it was initially just a small larval settlement on a rock with some morphs, took a good 18 months to grow large enough for a proper ID. Since then, it's been moved multiple times through various tanks and has consistently thrived, I'd definitely ...

Re: Raising frogspawn coral offspring
That torch pic you mentioned, it's clear the skeleton's been damaged, probably by a magnet cleaner. Gravity will eventually take its toll on the small piece, slowly tearing it away with some tissue.

Re: keeping fish with live rock
Thanks for the reassurance guys, I thought the store owner was way off base with that comment. I've had my doubts about that store before, like when they sell nurse sharks and sturgeons to anyone who walks in - it just doesn't seem right.

Re: keeping fish with live rock
I'd consider buying 40 pounds of used live rock, but the price would have to be right. It's being sold because the owner is breaking down their tank, so I'd think it's already established and has some good stuff on it. How much do you think is a fair price for that amount of used live rock?

keeping fish with live rock
I recently spoke with a fish store owner who warned against placing live rock in a tank with fish, claiming they'll eat it. However, I've found that while fish may pick at it, this doesn't necessarily mean you should avoid combining the two.

Re: identifying a fish i saw recently
I was at the fish store the other day and I saw this really cool fish, it was hilarious. He had a tiny head, long fins, and was this light cream yellow color with little black spots all over him. The sign said Clown Face something, I forgot the rest, but this little guy was a riot. He was hiding ...

Re: identifying a fish i saw recently
I finally figured it out. It's a panther grouper, and the store called it a clown faced grouper. That little guy was hilarious, I'm telling you.
